Straight from The Big Apple, The Manhattan is undeniably one of the heavyweights in the cocktail world and a must for all bourbon lovers. It’s one to be slowly slipped due to its spirit-strong nature (the ice is more or less the only element diluting it)! Really get to grips with making this particular cocktail before getting adventurous with variations; it can only be perfected by personal taste.


  • 50ml of your preferred bourbon
  • 25ml of sweet red vermouth
  • 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters
  • A teaspoon of syrup (you could use the liquid in the jar of maraschino cherries).
  • A twist of orange zest
  • A maraschino cherry
  • Ice


  • Fill a glass with ice.
  • Add the bourbon, vermouth, bitters and syrup into the glass.
  • Stir well.
  • Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  • Garnish with an orange twist and a maraschino cherry.
